Not All Rugs Are Created Equal
At Rugalia, we hand-tuft custom rugs using a wool blend made of 80% wool and 20% nylon. This specific blend was chosen for its luxurious texture, strength, and ease of care.
Unlike other fibres, wool maintains its structure when washed. You don’t need to worry about the yarn stretching, shrinking, or losing shape. Nylon, which adds durability, helps the rug maintain its appearance over time—even with regular cleaning.
Why Wool Rugs Are Easier to Clean
Wool naturally repels dirt and stains. When paired with nylon, the result is a rug that can handle real life—spills, messes, and all. You can perform a gentle water-based deep clean without harming the fibres.
Moreover, if you need to spot clean, there’s an easy solution. Use a product called Dry Wonder. Here’s how:

The Problem with Silk and Viscose Rugs
Many silk or viscose rugs offer a beautiful, glossy finish. However, they are extremely sensitive to moisture. Even a small amount of water can damage the fibres.
If you try to wash these materials, they may become matted or lose their sheen. In some cases, the rug may never return to its original condition. Even spot cleaning can leave uneven marks. For this reason, we don’t recommend washing silk or viscose rugs at home.
